Criminal Lawyer
Born and raised in Lac La Biche, Alberta, Miya Cunningham graduated from J.A Williams Highschool in 2013. She then earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree, with Distinction, in 2017. In 2020, she obtained her Juris Doctor from the University of Alberta.
Over the course of her Juris Doctor, she was the recipient of several scholarships and was awarded a spot on the Dean’s List for being in the top 10% of her class.
From a very young age, Miya has always been intrigued by the criminal justice system. While in law school, she focused her studies on criminal law, criminal procedure, criminal trial advocacy and the law of bail.
In 2020, Miya joined Chadi & Company as an articling student, under the mentorship of Jake Chadi. During her articles, Miya gained a breadth of experience, including addressing bail and sentencing. She also sat second chair at trial on a number of files ranging from simple assault to first-degree murder, as well as a range of drug-related offences.
Miya understands that being charged with a criminal offence and having to navigate the criminal justice system alone is a truly stressful and intimidating time in one’s life. She will zealously represent you, and work tirelessly to achieve a just and fair outcome for each and every client.
